Rachel Kohanov

Chief of Staff

From a young age, Dr. Rachel Kohanov could be found rescuing stray pets or injured wildlife in her home state of Michigan. That early passion led her to setting her sights on becoming a veterinarian. She first earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Albion College where she researched song bird communication before studying at the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine.

After earning her DVM in 2018, Rachel practiced in Montana near Glacier National Park until moving to Portland in 2025. Her professional interests include animal behavior, preventive and wellness care, and internal medicine. She is particularly passionate about helping senior pets age gracefully and client communication that empowers people to make informed decisions about their pets’ care.

When she’s not at work, Rachel enjoys snowboarding, reading, running, trivia, hiking with her dogs, and tending her flower garden. She shares her home with two cats, Margo and Ruth, a Korean Village Dog rescue named Shenzi, and a Shiba Inu mix named Huey Lewis and the Chews.
